Week 6

Loved ones!

It's been another wonderful week here in Georgia!

I went on an exchange two weeks ago with Sister Van Leuven in the
Riverside Spanish Branch. We were checking up on one of their
potential investigators and she never answered the door. As we were
walking back to our car we heard someone talking in Spanish by the
trailer behind her so we went over to talk to this woman. She was on
the phone but decided to talk to us anyway. She said she had met with
missionaries before but she was catholic. I had no idea what anyone
was saying so I would just smile and pray for the spirit to be there.
We invited her to the Day of Nations and called it a day.
Four days later I was on exchanges in the Riverside Spanish Branch
again but this time with Sister Martinez. We were checking up on a
potential inestigator and I found it was the same lady Sister Van
Leuven and I tried to check on. Once again she didn't answer. As we
were waiting on her porch a little girl was walking by the trailer and
called out a "hello" to us. As we were walking back to our car we
decided to see where that little girl lived. We asked if we could
visit her mom and next thing we knew we were on her couch having a
lesson with Minerva. She poured out her heart to us. Once again I
would smile and pray and pray that the spirit would be there knowing
little about what was actually going on. I also was praying to know
how I could help. I had brought a beginners Spanish book with me that
Sister Van Leuvan gave me so I could at least introduce myself and ask
a few questions in Spanish. I found myself flipping through it during
the lesson and landed on a page about bearing testimony. I felt
prompted to bear my testimony to Minerva. I don't speak Spanish. But I
bore my testimony in Spanish that night. Somehow I was lead to bear
testimony of the things she needed to know. She put her head in her
hands and just cried for a minute and then walked over to give us both
a hug. Sister Martinez told her to pray and read the Book of Momon and
she will feel the power of that book and ask God if it's true and we'd
explain more about it next time. We were both in shock as we left
Minerva's home that night. Sister Martinez was born in Mexico and has
spoke Spanish her entire life. She said she has never experienced
someone having the gift of tongues. The spirit was so strong and God
answered my prayers. I wanted to help and submitted to His will. Even
if it seemed a little crazy and way out of my comfort zone. He always
knows better than I do and I am truly humbled daily by His grace and
how my weaknesses are made strong and he makes all the difference.
They went back two days later and Minerva said she knew the Book of
Mormon was true!
Do you remember the Lee family that I met my first night in Georgia?
Well, they are amazing and are going to be baptized this Saturday.
It's going to be the best day ever because the General Women's meeting
is that night as well. I am so excited to hear from the leaders of the
church my heart could burst.

I love ya'll! (We never actually say it haha)

Week 5

EVERYONE,

Finally I found my email list! So sorry everyone that didn't get an
email until now... I still love you and hope you still love me!

Thank you for all the birthday gifts, cards, emails and thoughts! It
was seriously one of the best days of my life. Heavenly Father truly
loves me and I got to see how amazing the people here in Georgia are.

Sister Tau'aho and I decided to start our day off by visiting a woman
in our Ward that just had surgery. She didn't come to the door but we
left her a note and she was really thankful in a text she sent later
on in the day. So we decided to knock on doors around her
neighborhood. Best thing ever. We had some success the day before with
singing songs to people at their doorsteps. So we did just that (I
guess it's a Sister Christensen thing.. Who knew). We're a one hit
wonder right now with "Families Can Be Together Forever".
Ether 12:27
27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I
give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is
sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they
humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make
weak things become strong unto them.
That entire day my weakness was made strong. At one point we were
singing to a man cleaning his car and these kids came out of their
house next door and just stood memorized by the song. It was truly
humbling. That man had actually only been in Georgia one month and had
been receiving lessons from the missionaries in Virginia and only
stopped because he moved out here. I'm constantly amazed at how he
truly leads us to these people.
In the afternoon we had a couple in the Ward that had asked if they
could come out with us all day and take us to lunch. We had a lesson
with an investigator and made so much progress with him! His changes
are small but we know Heavenly Father has a plan for him and hope to
help him find that. He asked if he could sing a song as a closing
prayer in Vietnamese. It was beautiful. He didn't even know it was my
birthday and he truly made my day! He ended up coming to the Day of
Nations Celebration (aka my birthday party) that the Spanish branches
put on and coming to a scripture study on Sunday night thanks to
amazing members that went out of their way to pick him up knowing he
might not come because he doesn't have a phone and can't let us know
if plans change.
At that scripture study one of the girls that was baptized two weeks
ago had cake for her 11th birthday and her mom made me a cake too so
we got to blow out candles together. It was really nice.
I love you!!

Another birthday miracle... Someone paid for our meal at TGI Fridays!

Week 4

Dearest ones,

This week had some crazy miracles! I don't have much time so I'll just
share one!
I was in the Riverside Spanish Sisters areas with Hermana Van LeuVan.
We were on our way to try and contact an investigator the Elders had a
few months back for the last time before we stopped visiting them. Our
GPS had other plans. Hermana Van LueVan said they had used that
address in the GPS before and it took them there with no problem. We
were driving around in downtown Lawrenceville in circles and couldn't
figure out why. Finally we decided Heavenly Father must have somewhere
else for us to be right now. We followed the GPS to a parking lot.
Said a prayer to find the person he had in mind for us to help and
started toward the shops. Right when we got to the sidewalk we saw two
women struggling to move this huge box onto a dolly. We offered to
help. One of the women started calling us her angels and telling us
how she was praying for someone to come and help and God brought her
two. Venus has a Book of Mormon that was given to her from a student
she had that is actually on a mission right now. She had questions
about it and we were able to answer a few of those. Then we found out
that she is from Honduras! The Hermanas will start teaching her once
she gets back on vacation! Heavenly Father is aware of every single
persons needs and every single persons prayers. It was a humbling
experience to see how we can be an answer to those prayers if we are
willing to trust in the Lord.
We also contacted a man on the side of the road names Abraham. I
didn't understand most of what was going on. I got really good at
saying No Hablo espanol haha. But I starting tearing up when I could
tell Hermana Van LeuVan was bearing her testimony in Spanish and
couldn't help but feel connected to my younger siblings and thankful
for the tender mercies Heavenly Father pours down on me. I love being
a missionary. I love being able to see how living the gospel truly
changes people. Especially me. Thank you for the love and prayers. I
found the list but forgot to bring it today... So sorry!
Party it up for me this Saturday! 24 :)

Week 3

Family,

The Lord continues to bless us here in the Lilburn 1st ward! Yesterday
the Robinson family baptism happened. It was so wonderful to witness.
So many people came to support this family. When we were helping them
make invitations they really could not think of a single friend they
could invite. Seeing the ward step up to the plate and be there for
this family was super touching. They are truly becoming a family. It
was crazy to see how hard Satan tries to keep people from entering the
waters of baptism. Really some crazy things happened to this family
last week. They kept their trust in the Lord and it was amazing to see
how strong their faith is. Their oldest daughter is now taking the
lessons from us with her husband. They are already member
missionaries! We're not mad about it!

A wonderful miracle:
We drive by this one apartment complex almost everyday. I see the kids
getting home from school and think "we should go knock there". The
sisters had knocked there before with no success so I kept pushing it
from my mind. Finally we decided to drive in. We didn't feel right the
first few buildings. Finally I noticed the pretty trees with pink
blooms I always see when we drive by. We parked and made a plan to
start at one end and work our way down until we had to be to our next
appointment. We knocked on 4 doors with nobody home. We got to the 5th
door and a cute young mom of two boys welcomed us in her home. Vinessa
has lived in her apartment for two months and has been hoping and
praying for someone to come and talk with her about religion. We set a
return appointment and walked out to realize our car was parked
directly in front of her apartment. He is constantly leading us and
miracles happen if we are willing to humble ourselves and follow the
promtings from the Holy Ghost.

I realized I didn't say much about my companion! Sorry! Sister Tau'aho
is from Oakland California and her mission here in Georgia will end in
December. She was born on December 22 (Shelbs & Cristians bday) that
automatically makes her amazing. She is big into sports and might play
volleyball in school when she gets home. She loves the people here
with her entire heart and never wants to give up on anyone. She sees
them how our Heavenly Father sees us. Full of potential. I love her.

Happiest of Birthdays to Papito on the 2nd and Momma on the 4th. Also
tell Grandpa Mike happy birthday on the 5th for me as well! So happy
all 3 of you were born and are a part of my life forever!

All my heart,
Sister Christensen
